It's HIV/AIDs Awareness
As we commemorate the World AIDS, I stand by the rest of the people to support and unite with people living with
and also remember those that I lost due to HIV/AIDS. As Ugandans we have a mission of ending HIV/AIDS pandemic by 2030 where
no more lives lost due to HIV/AIDS and also no more new cases of HIV/AIDS infection and I believe we can change this in the next 8 years to
come.
In 2016 according to the UDHS people who had comprehensive knowledge about HIV transmission and prevention were (48%) women and (49%) men.
Only 2% of women reported having more than one sexual partner in the 12 months before the survey. One-fifth (21%) of men reported having more
than one sexual partner. Among those men, 22% reported using a condom during their most recent sexual intercourse. The majority of women (97%)
and men (96%) age 15-49 knew where to obtain an HIV test, but women are more likely (85%) than men (73%) to have ever been tested for HIV/AIDs.
During the survey among women, HIV testing coverage in the past 12 months is highest in Teso and Tooro regions (both 64%) and
lowest in Bunyoro region (44%). Testing coverage among men is highest in Acholi region (64%) and lowest in Karamoja region (24%).
CURRENT STATISTICS OF HIV PANDEMIC IN UGANDA BY 2021
According to UNAIDS current statistics on HIV/AIDS situation 2021 show the following; Adults and children living with HIV 1400 000 people

NOTE:
These numbers are for only the year 2021 These numbers are really so high but we need to reduce them by 2030.
GUIDING TIPS ON HOW TO REDUCE THE SPREAD OF HIV PANDEMIC.
-
TESTING TO KNOW YOUR STATUS
Go for testing as an individual or with your partner and know your HIV status. If found negative as an individual please use a condom with another person you’re not sure of their status If found negative as a couple please avoid cheating in your relationship and stick to one person.
-
USE PrEP (PRE-EXPOSURE PROPHYLAXIS)
This drug can reduce your chance of getting HIV from sex or injection drug use. When taken as prescribed, PrEP is highly effective for preventing HIV. This drug is taken before one engaging into sexual intercourse and this drug can got from Government facilities for free of charge. The most common users of this drug are the sex workers and discordant couples. Therefore, I urge those using the drug to take it normally the way they have been doing and those that would want to start the drug to seek the right prescription from the health workers.
-
USE PEP (POST-EXPOSURE PROPHYLAXIS)
This drug is taken after having unprotected sexual intercourse with a person who is infected or not sure of their status. The drug works with the first 72 hours of unprotected sex and one has to take the medicine for a period of 30 days at the same time before they go for a check- up test their status. This medicine can be got at the government facilities for free charger and its always prescribed by the doctors at the facility. Victims of rape are given PEP to prevent the spread of the virus and people at high risk.

USE A CONDOM
This is one of the most effective methods of preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS that is commonly used by so many people. A condom has double protection that it can prevent HIV/AIDS, STDs and unwanted pregnancy hence giving a person a chance of double protection to their lives when used correctly. There are two types of condoms the female condom and the male condom however, one partner has to use and the other and doesn’t have to use. Both partners can’t use the same condoms at once because there will be friction which shall lead to breaking of the condom. How can a person who is HIV positive prevent passing HIV to others? Take HIV medicines daily, Treatment with HIV medicines (called antiretroviral therapy or ART) helps people with HIV live longer, healthier lives. ART cannot cure HIV, but it can reduce the amount of HIV in the body (called the viral load). One of the main goals of ART is to reduce a person's viral load to an undetectable level. An undetectable viral load means that the level of HIV in the blood is too low to be detected by a viral load test. People with HIV who maintain an undetectable viral load have effectively no risk of transmitting HIV to an HIV-negative partner through sex.
